Hello all, me again, old one gone and new one in place, picked this up at 2pm yesterday looking like this:

Went to Guildford cruise and at 11.30pm it looked like this:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y18/HazBo/Crash004.jpg
Thanks to some bad rear brake set up, had to brake, in a straight line, and that was it, back came round and slammed me into the barrier on the M25, bumper gone, lights gone, lots of bent metal, ended up facing the wrong way, luckily only the front was creamed, so close to the alloy, then i would of cried.
Anyway, here i am, pondering weather to keep it and fix it or brake it and make a small fortune he he. Im desperate to keep it but could do without spending any more £`s.
Help.
Cheers kai
Il put the spec on the other forum :)
Oh deary deary me. Saw that on abay - £2000 right? Thats a lot of money to spunk into the M25 barrier!!! Breaking it would be a bitch, that is a sweet looking car, before doing it i think you should take it to a bodyshop and see how much to have the front end done, would seem like such a waste!

I totally agree Sipo, today trying to straighten her with the sun gleaming off the paint i so want it fixed, im going to try and do most of it myself and my dad will spray it, it just annoys me!
Yeah i got it for 2k, had gone up to see it before with the intention of paying £2500 because thats what they wanted so i shouldn`t really moan about fixing it, just wondering if they knew about the brakes? Still can`t understand why knowbody else bidded.
So, if any one has a decent bumper, ns wing, bonnet (anyone wanna swap with my one, just the bad boy bits damaged) new slam panel (im hoping!), any 19" tyres as it looks as if the glass has punctured one :( and also a windscreen, how annoying, the crash didn`t brake it, limping it home the bonnet flew up and smashed the bottom half! I would also like some morettes if not normal lights, that`l do for the time being, have to have it on the road asap!
Cheers (slightly gutted) Kai

Kai, this is such bad luck! I'd be so gutted which I'm sure you are to. I'm almost 100% the car had been put up a couple of times from the same seller. I think for £2000 you've done good (apart from the back brakes ;))
I was into my maxy p styleee a few years back, and I'm sure the car was in 'Fast Car' magazine, infact it was definetly in one of the mags.
Try and do your bestest to see a positive outcome to this and that is you can get the front looking exactly how YOU want and not someone else!
ps - could you change the wipers, mirrors and silver door handles while your at it ;)!

That is one way to look at it, but have decided to definately keep it, rough quote of £500 which isn`t to bad, thats just the work though so need to source some lights, morettes if possible and a bumper, i didn`t like the front, too ott and not a very good job either, it was done at a cost a few years back so obviously needs tidying in lots of places, can`t wait!
And just for you il change the wipers, mirrors and handles lol, See what max are giving away on the cover next month :)
Cheers kai

When ever you buy a new car it's best to do a full check, when ever we get a new car. First things to change are the head gasket and cam belt. Didn't you go for a test drive? I know you can't after an ebay auction but if I were spending 2k I would of made the effort before hand.
Still you have learn't a good lesson and I doubt you will ever do it again! And I hope you get her back on the road as beautiful as ever :) what colour are you going to re-spray it? Or keep it gold?

Hi, its not something you`d pick up on a test drive so im not annoyed with not checking it properly, il keep the colour the same, i like it, the misses hates it, sounds like the best reason ever to keep it the same :) Ive got a new wing and slam panel to pick up today and ive found somewhere else to do the work for £325, i still need a bumper, bonnet, lights etc.
Cheers kai
Il keep you posted

Thats seems pretty reasonable.
Good to see your getting straight on with it Minikab!
Unlucky!!
But at least you'll be able to sort out the front end the way you want it.
Nice to see that your getting stuck it to it though. Maybe get it on the road for the Rerto show?

There is really no need to mess about with head gaskets unless obvious signs of trouble are making themselves known!

I agree m8 why change the gasket when it's ok.
Although i do change the cambelt whenever i get another car just to be safe.

Yep, agreed, surely it just raises the risk of a real problem coming along?
Cambelt is a good idea though, as it gives you a good chance (excuse) to check and change the tensioners.
Ian.

I had the same problem wih my SXi. I fitted a disc beam to the back and never changed the pressure regulators. Drove it round for a year without any real problems when running the original 1800 8v, I then stuck in a 16 lump in which was obviousely loads quicker and slightly heavier.
Any how. just overtaken my mate and breaking towards a round about (I was going fast but should have v comfortably stopped) and the back stepped out, spanking me into a curb. Worst thing in the world as there aint anything you can do about it. I tried letting the break off to regain control but had to contiue breaking or I'd have ended up planted on the top of the round about. Fortunately I came out of it with a scraped wheel and no other damage. Needless to say I got some pressure regulators sorted pronto and then enjoyed worry free hossing for several months till I sold it.
As said before, it is a difficult thing to check with a test drive. The only way you will ever know is if you are giving the car some real stick. I don't personally know many people who will let you rag there car before you have payed for it.

On 16v's with ABS they are on the master cylinder. I think on ones with on ABS they are on the brake pipes that run across the bulkhead.
If you look at your brake pipes in the engine bay, the brake bias valves are the big hexagon things bolted in line. They have a number or code stamped on them. Not sure what the 16v code is though?
So it didnt have ABS ,Do you mean the regulating valves that join to the master cylinder and the brake pipe goes into them ?.So i need to get them from a non ABS 16v for the beam ?
Anyone got pics of non ABS regulaters so i know what im looking for ?

Basically it's just the cast block that sits on front of the master cylinder where all the pipes go into.

If you on about the ABS pump isn't it on the right above the gearbox, and the master cylinder on the left on the bulkhead just behind the inlet manifold.
The regulators are the hexagonal bits between the ABS pump and the brake pipes(in line).
DOH!!!!!! :o
Just read that it's a NON ABS system. :o
So the cast bit you were on about is the master cylinder.
The hex bits in line on the brake pipes are the regulators.

The ABS controller is on the right yes. On my non-ABS GTE the bias part to change is as I described. I haven't looked at my ABS parts dog GTE, but I assumed the bias part was also on the master cylinder. It could well be inline.
Any ideas of what numbers are stamped on the side of them ,i know the ones currently on them have numbers stamped ?
I would look at our 16v but its in the bodyshop at the mo getting the rear arches sorted, if i get chance i'll have a look m8.

i got pics of that yellow cabriolet at pv2002 or 3 cant remember. nice looking motor back then. i saw it not long ago as well can't remember where but before the m25 incident i think as it looked the same as at the show. shame it got mashed into a barrier, as they usually come off better.
that last pic does look dodgy though, whats going on with that wing and bumper??? i know the arch isn't there but that looks real odd.
