Hiya all

I've got a rather nice Mk2 8v GTE ragtop that just needs sills to get back on the road for the summer. I'm having a bit of trouble finding pattern parts though! I'm told nobody makes Cabrio sill repair panels :yuck:

I understand that the cab has extra metal in the sills to compensate for lack of roof... as far as I can tell it only needs the outer sill, the inner has a bit of surface rust but nothing that won't clean up. So the outer sills, are they the same gauge metal as a tintop Astra?

If I was to get a 2dr outer sill, would that line straight up with the cabrio sill or would it need cutting and modding?

Expect more questions soon as I begin my first ever welding mission! Photos soon for a complete build-up :)

I would have thought it would be the same...

We've had a few cabrios on here getting the metalwork treatment, so hopefully someone will know.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Ian.

Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome :bananajump:

I've had a look at Beevers (snigger), and they're close enough to pick up if I fancied a drive out although the postage isn't bad. They seem to list three different types:

4 door car (obviously different)
2 door car or van, not astramax (these I think would be the closest)
Astramax van

I'm sure the astramax would be too long, don't they have a longer wheelbase? Not sure what a non-astramax van is (did they do a combi-style, 2 door hatch with plated windows?) but I reckon they'd be best match, at least for outer sill only. There's actually quite a bit of metal left on the sills so it's only the curve and flat base I need, I've cut along the sill under the sideskirt fixing lugs as the metal above was fine.
