Within the past few months, I've noticed the rad fan failed to come on when the car started to get warm, only finally firing up when it got too warm for my liking (although never going into the red).
I decided the fan switch was to blame, and got the correct intermotor part number for a slightly cooler fan switch than standard.
Fitted it at the weekend. Taking out the old fan switch revealed exactly why the switch had been failing to come on correctly! It was covered in a white wet icing sugar like substance. About 2mm thick.
Now this started alarm bells ringing, with me panicing that the headgasket was fubar'd and this was the mayo water/oil mix.
But checking the oil, it is seemingly completely water free, and there doesnt appear to be any oil in the coolant either.
So could it be that the headgasket HAD gone on the car before I had it, and its been fixed, but the mayo had already built up on the fan switch hence it ****ing up now?
P.S. The fan kicks in perfectly now! Just as its about to go onto 1 blue and 3 yellow, it kicks in, so it never goes over 1 blue 2 yelllow segments on the dash
