Astra GTE Decals (digitally drawn)

Right, for those who have contacts at sign shops, I have vector drawn some of the GTE livery so that it can be accurately replicated in vinyl.

So far I have only done those that were found on the rear of my Champion, but if someone wants to provide me with a normal red 16V badge I'll draw that too, as I believe it is less rounded that the gold sticker on mine.

The below documents are pixel perfect to the millimeter, but I've uploaded this jpeg to show the dimensions of the unique decals.

These are the files most likely to be requested by a sign shop. Adobe Illustrator Version 10 (.ai) and Post Script (.eps) Please note: The colours are not perfect, but if what StationMiek has said below is true, I can match these perfectly to mine as I have a Pantone swatch chart with the CYMK values. ;)

When downloading these file(s) they appear as .ps which I can't explain. Simply change the file extension to either .eps or .ai depending on the file you require.

I did this a while ago. There is no point in having colour, they use colour separations (CMYK) to print out. :)

Micky is sending my his spare set of Champ side decals so I can get measurements and exact copies made up. Further to this little lot I'll hopefully be able to offer a full Champ decal set for anyones car but not sure on price until I have things finalised. Just an idea but to get more club revenue it could be an idea to offer these through the Astra-mk2.com club once they are all sorted.

To be honest I would like for original decals to be sent to Ronin for him to complete the set of drawing them all up. It looks like he's done a great job.

I have a GTE side sticker and Griffin. Ronin, do you 'ruin' the stickers when you draw them, i.e. peel off the backing etc?

I'll be updating this thread with pictures when I collect the first samples which will hopefully be next week at some point. Richie I appreciate what you are saying and Chris may well be happy to oblige but the first priority is to get the Champ front bump and rear GTE decals sorted before concentrating on anything else.

When I do this I simply take the measurements from the decal, scan or photograph them and then redraw them in Adobe Illustrator. So bar a form of measuring device, I don't touch them at all.

I don't mind drawing up all elements of the mk2 is they're available and going to be of use.

The 16v badge was drawn in the way I described above, but using 2 sets of measurements. The decals obviously vary slightly as they are vinyl and liable to stretch and bend.

OK. Just that it seems the stickers I have (GM ones) are kind of covered by the opaque paper. Maybe I'm just not realising that it's still easy to measure/see them through this?

Could always pop them on top of a light box, this would help.

Right, quick update for everyone as I've already PMed Micky after popping to see my sticker man at lunchtime today. Mickey kindly sent me the only known Champ side trim stickers left in existence last week and I took these to my sticker man today so he can measure them and create exact copies. Due to their length I'll probably get about 4 to 6 full sets made initially otherwise they may get expensive due to wasted vinyl as the side stickers are very long. In addition I'll also get a few extra boot and front bumper stickers made. The grey vinyl they have is very close to the OE but better quality and a more gloss finish than the satin OE version. The OE flash sticker that goes on the boot next to GTE is poor quality and has red/yellow/blue vinyl stuck on top, the one’s I’ll be getting done will be screen printed and look much better. Fingers crossed I’ll have something for next week or early the week after.

Can't do any side decal measurements until I get my GTE back from the body shop so yet another delay, sorry. Will get something sorted in the next couple of weeks as I've just been silly busy over the last month.

He's a busy outfit so the Champ stuff isn't top of his list as he doesn't make a lot from my stuff. I mailed him last Thursday chasing as I still owe him money from the last batch of stickers I had. Will be calling him tomorrow and will update with news. I know it's taken a longtime to sort this but you'll have to trust me as it will be worth the wait.

Spoke with my sticker man today and he's just confirmed everything with me and the very 1st kit will be ready for collection this coming Saturday. I've requested that the application tape is not fitted so I can get some pictures prior to fitting the tape. I'll be passing the first kit to Micky Taylor for his approval before I go ahead and get the first 10 fully kits produced. Fingers crossed it'll be spot and I've even thinking about fitting a kit to my GTE, minus the gold 16v and leather logos. I'll confirm kit prices once I've purchased the 10 kits but until this time I can't commit to anything, sorry.

Only just had chance to update today, sorry for all those who might of checked yesterday. I picked up the fist sample Champ decals yesterday and they look fantastic.

The 18mm front bumper and 24mm boot stickers are in gold. The gold doesn’t show in the picture but it’s as close as I could get the originals.

The long door strips and the GTE stickers, ignore the Super Touring 200 stickers as they are custom items for someone else and aren’t correct anyway so I need to go back and get some more printed.

Close up of the GTE boot sticker (top left) and front wing stickers (top right pairs). The flashes below the boot sticker are extras and won’t be in the kit as the rear quarter strips will have these printed on. The rear quarter strips in the centre of the picture aren’t correct as the flashes are the incorrect size so they reprinted 4x pairs for some strange reason, see second picture below.

I’m also going to drop off a genuine boot/bonnet Griffin I have for them to copy next Tuesday so the Champ kit will be a complete set.

Until I place a big order for 10 full kits I can only give a rough price of somewhere in the region of £35 inc recorded delivery, this may go up/down so nothing is set in stone yet.

I’m going to do my very best and have full kits available to order from Monday 4th June and I ‘should’ have them available for delivery a week or two after this date. Meaning you will be getting them prior to Billing 

The rear quarters are the same size on a hatch & a van (between the door shut & arch where the sticker would go)

a 5 door champ replica would be good too, but finding leather door cards for one of these would be a hard task as 5 door champs were only available in Germany (i have pics to prove this too)


does anybody think a "Champ" replica van would look good??? as i'm debating on changing it from the way it looks now, (in my avatar)

I got to see them in the flesh and on a car today Harv', they look great, but I must just one thing, I think the silver should be a tad lighter.

I'll have a word with my sticker man as that's the closest he had in at the time. The slightly darker vinyl does have more of a silver metallic glitter in day light than the original. Was going to fit a Champ set on my white GTE minus the gold logos but now decided against it.

All stickers will be available individually very shortly priced at £3.50 each inc p&p. The set prices are as listed earlier on the thread and will remain as priced. Just got to get the front original 16v sticker measured unless anyone has the measurements. I'll look into a slightly lighter grey vinyl for a better match of the original stickers.
